What is the VOA Word Book?

— VOA Word book is a dictionary of words from all over the world, with emphasis on content from the Voice of America.

— VOAs Word Book is a document that lists words that are considered to be used in Voice of America broadcasts. The document was created by the U.S. government in 1944 so that other countries could identify American propaganda. The book is compiled of “English-language words and phrases, many of which have foreign equivalents,” so any other country could potentially use them in their own publications to avoid suspicion.

–The VOA Word Book is a lexicon of words, phrases, and idioms drawn from the speeches and writings of American presidents. It is a product of Voice of America, a US international broadcaster that presents news and information in more than 40 languages. The VOA Word Book provides translations into foreign languages that are currently being broadcast by Voice of America Radio.

— The VOA Word Book is a dictionary of words that are used in the Voice of America. This dictionary, available online, includes 285 pages of words with definitions and multiple synonyms. It also includes an introduction to the VOA program and English language usage around the world.
