How to Learn English Vocabulary (Article 3)

English is one of the most commonly spoken languages on the planet, but there’s a good chance you know very little about it. Learning vocabulary is the first step in learning a new language. You can’t read or write a book in English without knowing what words mean. But it’s not as easy as just memorizing words and phrases. Learning vocabulary takes practice and repetition. Here are five ways you can learn more vocabulary in English without spending a lot of time.

1. Learn words online

There are many great websites and apps that will help you learn more words. I recommend LingQ for its excellent flashcard software. You can also try out Duolingo, which is completely free to use.

2. Take language courses

If you’re looking for more in-depth language lessons, you should take an online course like Maestro Sersea’s 5-year online American English course.

3. Read books

Reading books written in the target language is a great way to learn new vocabulary and build your reading comprehension. The best books I’ve found are those by Penguin Random House, but there are plenty of great options.

4. Learn by doing The best way to learn new vocabulary is to start using it in everyday situations. When you need to ask someone to do something, or when you have to describe an item, you’ll need to know what words to use.

5. Write articles

Writing articles in English will also help you build your vocabulary. If you write an article, you’ll be able to use the words you learn in the process.
